MY REPLY: No, in fact it was because of conversion to Islam that Malays enjoyed a second stint o greatness in the MAlay Archipelago.

But the greatness was not as large as Srivijaya because there were so many small governments around.

At that time, each Sultante considers themselves to be a branch of the Ottoman Empire. So there is no need for a unified MAlay-Muslim government.

TQ for your input. But I think the problem we see Malays right now is that they are letarghic.

And i believe this letarghic mindset is partly derived from the downspiral trend of all great peoples whom had enjoyed their stint at greatness, i.e. Turks, Greeks, Romans/Italians/ Egyptians.

Now to overcome this letarghic mindset is very difficult and as such it has never been done before. great people have ceased to become great again.

I think it's in the human's DNA. We can only become group as a race only once.

After that it's the turn of other people. It's how GOd demonstrate His fairness.

Actually, Malays started off as Hindus, then during Srivijaya we became Buddhist, then when Islam came to the Malay world we became Muslims.

I got no problem talking about our past. But what needs to be talked about is the fact that Malays willingly change our religion from Buddha to Islam. Malays didn't fight with each other, we didn't destroy our temples, we didn't have any form of religous tensions.

We willingly and wholeheartedly change our religion from Buddha to Islam.

this is new to me ? no one told me this. I was made to believe that Malays were always Muslims !!

But I always wondered what were the Malays before the 14/15th century.

When ever I questioned, people chided me and told me not to ask stupid questions. Some even said I could be arrested under the ISA/ OSA for asking such questions.

I see and comment from a neutral pont of view. I agree that sometimes, that you need a solid fact and quote of reference to backup your words, especially facts about the history of malays, UNLESS you stated at the beginning, its your humble opinion!

If not, people will shoot you for your lack of accuracy or lack of facts to backup your opinions.

2ndly, i agree with you. I believe these are the mindsets that have been passed on to us for centuries. IMHO, please imagine those were days from the kesultanan melayu days after the srivijaya empire. Those kesultanan IMHO are just a bunch of pricks and ketua kampungs who wanted to have their own land and rights to their lands for their castles. Do we seriously thinks that they can expand or become great?

If they are truly great like those with powers and empires, surely, in common sense 101, they will expand and be HISTORY. But infact, they are still at the same size without any expand in empire, hence, in conclusion, i believe they are just a bunch of ketua kampungs who wants their own lands and their scores of wives.

They do not wanted to be known in the future. You think they care about their 3rd generation down the road? Maybe but chances are slim. IMHO, i believe that their sole purpose in life during then, was to think about themselves!

Hence, these mindset of having 4 wives and multiple kids, and just lazing around the kampungs existed till today!

What i quoted is solely based on my understanding of peoples mindset, which is plain lazy, blame everyone else except themselves and at the end, they think about their own pocket!
